Tears
The song "Tears" by Kotch is my first choice of song to share on this blog because I myself actually just heard it for the first time yesterday. I figured why not start with something fresh.
Ever notice how a song doesn't always have to be your exact vibe or normal preference for it to mean something to you, or for you to enjoy it? Often times I notice songs hold certain sentiments behind them, that go beyond the lyrics or the beats. That's kind of the case with my appreciation of this song. I was having a pretty challenging day yesterday all around- between multiple private family matters and a couple personal situations that feel they have been draining my energy- I felt pretty much incapable of doing anything I needed to do yesterday. But such is life right?- so on I went! Through the traffic I managed a couple of the errands I needed to get done and then ran into a friend of mine.
Before I continue, I'll give you a bit of emotional context on my part: I consider myself a pretty open person. When I have something on my mind or heart I like to be able to share it with the people around me. However I also tend to be the person that everyone goes to for solace and advice, so sometimes I forget how to let myself do the same without feeling like a burden. Long story short, I really suck at letting myself cry in front of anyone other than my family (and sometimes even that gets tough).
With that in mind, lets get back to my story...
I ran into a friend of mine and he invited me over for a coffee before I continued with my errands, so I followed him to his place (still feeling really shy and struggling to keep a happy demeanor about myself). When we pulled up to his place two of his neighbors approached him to talk story, and his daughter was in the house working on homework. At any other moment this wouldn't have been a factor in my ability to socialize. In fact, I normally love meeting new faces and his daughter is a sweet heart but I just couldn't hold myself together. I told my friend I had to leave, holding back tears and trying to ignore the weight I felt in my chest.
When I left I pretty much just drove a few minutes down the road and stopped to pull myself together. I felt like I had acted awkward so I texted him something along the lines of "Hey I'm sorry, I'm just having a really hard day and I didn't want to start crying in front of you. Let's reconnect later." His response was at first what seemed like that of any good friends, reminding me that that he was there for me. After he sent me that text another one came through with a link to this song on Apple Music and a message that read "You can cry on my shoulder anytime!"
The fact that he took the time to find an upbeat song that was relative (in his eyes) to what I was going through, and knowing that I love music, he really impacted my day in a positive way. I even listened to the song a few times on repeat because it just reminded me that someone cared about me. Had I heard this song at any other time, I'm really not sure I would have liked it as much. In fact I might have even considered it repetitive and high pitched (ha ha!). But because of the way it was presented to me and the timing that it came along with, I love the sound of it now.
Hope you enjoy!
Aloha Wailoa! Thank you for sharing your deep thoughts. It can be a weight off your shoulders to talk about or get your thoughts out in writing. It was nice of your friend to take the time to send you this song. I am on the same page as you I think the song is liked by you because there is an emotional connection. It is high pitched and repetitive haha! Anyways, I hope you are having a better day/week and I can't wait to see what's next for the blog.
ReplyDeleteYes it is nice to be able to openly talk about certain things, especially things that weren't particularly easy to deal with. I appreciate outside perspective! Glad you enjoyed.
DeleteHi Wailoa! The song Tears is very emotional because it expresses both feelings and emotions. When making long story short it can be a burden sometimes because when creating a story, it takes time to think of new ideas.
ReplyDeleteRight! I thought it was cool because it was a pretty upbeat song for a name titled "Tears". I like the contrast!
